5 Specific Children’s Charities that Benefit from the Great Dam Duck Drop
Many people know about the upcoming Great Dam Duck Drop on August 8th (and the golf tournament on August 7th). For many, the best part of the event is the chance to win the $5000 for the winning duck. But the Duck Drop is about much more than bringing the community together for a weekend of fun and prizes. As a Title Company at the Lake of the Ozarks since 1984, at Arrowhead Title we think it is actually about the fundraising and the multitude of opportunities those funds provide for local children’s charities.
As,
you can read on the Great Dam Duck Drop website, all funds raised remain local
and are distributed to non-profit organizations via the Ozark Coast Kiwanis
Organization. While we can’t talk about
each one in a short blog, we would like to give you a little more information
about what some of these charities do and where your donations will go when you
buy a duck drop ticket or make any type of donation to the Great Dam Duck Drop.
1) Wonderland Camp.
Wonderland Camp has been providing a safe, fun, and educational camp experience for people with disabilities since 1970. No matter what a child’s ability level, Camp Wonderland has something to offer and is something kids and families look forward to every summer. Kids have a blast, caregivers and family members have a much-deserved respite from their daily responsibilities, and volunteers and staff even enjoy a sense of growth and personal development as they journey along with the kids.
2) Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Just one person who cares enough to be there and mentor can make all the difference in the life of a child. We are fortunate to have BBBS of Lake of the Ozarks to provide a safe and organized way to match mentors with local youth. There is no better return on investment of time or money than relationships that are facilitated through this program.
3) Share the Harvest Food Pantry.
No
one should go hungry and especially not a child. Share the Harvest Food Pantry has been a
labor of love with thousands of volunteer hours and years of dedication to
providing food for area youth and their families. Last year, $2,064,000 worth of food was
donated or provided for Share the Harvest to distribute to those in need.
4) Kid’s Harbor.
When
children are abused, neglected, or exposed to trauma they need support from caring
professionals who are trained to provide a safe and friendly environment to foster
and facilitate healing. Kid’s Harbor
provides that and so much more. Kid’s Harbor provides child and family advocates who understand how difficult the
process of recovering or seeking justice can be and they are dedicated to
helping reduce the damage caused to the children for whom they advocate.
5) CADV (Citizen’s Against Domestic Violence).
The
CADV provides crisis intervention, safe shelter, court advocacy and more for
victims of domestic violence. Unfortunately,
domestic violence affects or is perpetrated on far too many children in today’s
society. It is crucial that resources
are available to help people to get themselves and their children out of
abusive situations, and all the funds raised by CADV go to help victims directly
with immediate needs related to escaping abuse.
